You may have heard or read somewhere that the greatest obstacle to success is not believing in oneself. I solemnly agree but I don’t even want you to believe in what you can do rather, I want you to believe you will do all you will learn here.

Let’s talk about fear. That Fear! The Plain Old fear!

That fear why most people believe not everyone can be an entrepreneur.

I use to think fear only as physical where you have the sensation of being frightening, panicking and sweating.

That first feeling you had when you walked up to that lady you have always admire from far and feels like you should pee on your body.

This fear is not the one you felt when about to toast that babe, neither is the life altering one. In fact, this fear that stops you from becoming the entrepreneur you desire to be is not physiological but mentally.

I know your fears right now. I know why you can’t succumb to starting a business but okay with finding a 9-5 day job. I was there and I still find myself there sometimes.

I bet you are afraid you will fail in business if you start

You are afraid of spending too much time on possibly the wrong thing and regretting it.

I know you are afraid of loosing your 2 years savings to a startup.

You are afraid of what people will say if you start a business now.

If you look closely, you will notice all these fears are fears of the unknown.

From experience, my fears are usually in form of thoughts. I use to say to myself…

  • I don’t have enough time.
  • I think selling is tasking.
  • I don’t think this business will pay me lot of money.
  • I don’t think my area is good for this business.
  • I am not confident enough to charge people money.
  • I don’t know what to say to convince someone to buy from me.

And the greatest of them all……

  • I don’t have any idea, skill or expertise I can sell for money.

These fears are the reason you will read 100 books on entrepreneurship, attend 50 seminars in a month and even read what you are reading right now and yet can’t make the decision to start a small business.

If you are afraid, it is because you are verbalizing these fears and impressing them on your mind so much they have become real.

I know you will be expecting me to just quit the story and tell you how to clear this off your mind. Hang on. we are there and e no hard.

To break down these fears, you need to.

  • First acknowledge the thoughts you’ve been having that is making you not to do what you really want to do,
  • then acknowledge also the assumptions you are telling yourself to be true about your fears,
  • and lastly, systematically put your assumptions to test by developing the courage right now until you step out and act.

If you are waiting for a magical feeling of confidence and courage before you step out and do something, I have not so good a news for you.

It will never come.

Even after reading this, nothing still makes no sense to you. I understand. If you can still find your way around it, let me help you to be a bit practical.

The only way you will overcome your fear is to fake confidence until you become confident.

It works well because as you begin to do that thing that you fear about to start a business, your level of confidence will start to increase too.

Ask the popular public speakers today, their first chance to speak in public was terrible. But after that first public speech they realized it isn’t as hard as they thought. With time, they begin to gain confidence until they can’t find the fears anymore.

This is exactly what I am saying.

See…….If you do not do the thing you fear, the fear will control your life. Check yourself now. Spot your fears and begin to take the necessary steps to tame them.

Don’t forget everything you want in life is on the other side of fear. Deal with it.
